Capture of Senior CJNG Leader Audias Flores Silva (“El Jardinero”)

According to Reuters, Mexican authorities have arrested Audias Flores Silva, known as “El Jardinero,” a senior operational commander within the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The arrest took place in Nayarit following a prolonged intelligence-driven operation supported by U.S. agencies.

Flores Silva oversaw significant portions of CJNG’s drug production and trafficking operations, including cross-border distribution into the United States. He was widely regarded as one of the cartel’s most influential operational figures and a potential successor within its leadership structure. The United States had previously offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture and is expected to pursue extradition.

His arrest represents a meaningful disruption to CJNG’s operational capabilities, particularly in areas tied to logistics, regional control, and established trafficking corridors.

Analysis – Carlos Olivo

“Figures like ‘El Jardinero’ are not just senior leaders—they are the operational backbone of cartel power. While top figures carry the brand, operators like this control logistics, production, and cross-border movement. Removing him disrupts the system in a way that leadership targeting alone often does not.”

Carlos Olivo further notes:

“This type of arrest creates immediate friction across trafficking corridors and internal command structures. The real impact will be seen in how quickly the organization can reconstitute those networks—or whether fragmentation leads to instability, competition, and increased violence in the short term.”
