Cross-Border Fraud and Enforcement: The Peak Growth Capital Case

This week, Interpol agents in Madrid detained Víctor Hugo Sepúlveda de León, co-founder of Peak Growth Capital, at the request of Mexican authorities. He now faces extradition to Nuevo León, where prosecutors have opened multiple case files alleging fraud of more than 145 million pesos. Victims describe a classic scheme: promises of returns as high as 24%, constant reinvestment of funds, and little transparency on how the money was actually managed.

But Sepúlveda did not operate alone. Arturo de Jesús González Cantú, also named as a founder of Peak, has been identified by investors as his partner in the scheme. Both men were the subject of victim petitions for Interpol “red notices”, highlighting how fraud in Mexico increasingly attracts cross-border enforcement attention.

The case illustrates several red flags we track at Obsidian Group Analytics:

The use of S.A.P.I. de C.V. corporate structures in Nuevo León to present legitimacy while soliciting investments.

Unrealistic returns (20%–24% and above), a common signal of Ponzi-style operations.

How individuals sought to move operations and themselves across borders to evade accountability.

The gap between what is published in the press (“Víctor Hugo N”) and what full due diligence can uncover, complete identities, corporate ties, and tax identifiers.

The Peak Growth Capital scandal is not an isolated event. It reflects a broader trend: financial fraud in Mexico now routinely crosses into international jurisdictions, forcing cooperation between prosecutors, financial regulators, and organizations like Interpol. For banks, law firms, and corporate investors, these risks underscore the need for enhanced due diligence and trusted intelligence support before engaging counterparties.

At OGA, we specialize in uncovering exactly these kinds of risks, pulling together the hard-to-access information that can mean the difference between security and exposure.
